My statement

"I've had the opportunity (maybe necessity) to think about, and attempt to understand what is "great" and "important" in art-mine in particular, but also in all style's and forms that people attempt. There are two qualities which boil down to the essence of what I respond to, and which I pursue (hopefully not always in vain) when I work; the first is tension, or the intuition of some disturbance or conflict, and secondly, resonance-provoking a viewer or listener into imagining beyond the image, of thinking past the picture or sound, and of entering into the subject's space. To me, these qualities transcend styles and forms, and without them, beauty is "only skin deep" Dianne Russell
