      My statement

      Professional history
I was born in Egypt and immigrated to New Zealand in 1963. Upon completing my degree at Victoria University, Wellington, I traveled to London continuing studies at Chelsea School of Art. Returning to Wellington three years later I began exhibiting work in private and public galleries.

In 1998, I began to explore movement through the medium of sculpture. In 2001 I created Pacific Grass the first wind sculpture in a series commissioned by the Wellington Sculpture Trust for the City of Wellington.

Pacific Grass was awarded the Inaugural Wellington Civic Initiative for Sculpture. This was followed by the work Kete for John and Jo Gow ‘s sculpture park at Connell’s Bay, on Waiheke Island.

I moved to Melbourne in 2003. Over the last few years I has created some personally ambitious and recognizable works. In 2005 I was awarded the Arts Victoria Celebrate Victoria Grant for his Sacred Grove – The Blue Trees project a controversial afforastation art action.

Other works include Red Centre for Melbourne’s Federation Square, launched by the Victorian Minister for the Arts; and Colour Field for a new sustainable urban development in Melbourne, launched by the Victorian Minister for Industry and State Development.

In early 2007 Pulse, a new sculpture for the University of Sunshine Coast was launched by the Director of the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art. His works have been included in the prestigious Helen Lempriere National Sculpture Awards for 2006-07, Sculpture by on the Gulf, Waiheke, and Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe, Perth as invited artist in 2007.

I am currently completing projects in United States and Italy.
