My statement
|
|
“I interpret the real world through the medium of watercolor. While I see things as a photographer, as a painter I am able to use the medium as a tool to express how I see things. One of my goals is to help people see everyday things in a new light.
My still life painting is influenced by the Dutch and Flemish still life painters of the 16th and 17th Century, such as Pieter Claesz, Willem Kalf and Jan Davidz de Heem.”

Professional history

Laurin is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society, the Transparent Watercolor Society of America, the Southern Watercolor Society and 7 other watercolor societies.
His paintings and articles about his work have been published in American Artist, the Artist’s, Watercolor, Watercolor Artist, Drawing, and International Artist. His work was the cover of the April 2006 of Watercolor Magic, now Watercolor Artist.
His paintings are included a number of books including Splash 9 and the upcoming Splash 10.
He has conducted workshops in Tennessee, Mississippi and Texas and will be conducting a 5 day workshop at the Dillman’s Creative Arts Foundation in Wisconsin in August.
His work is sold through galleries in Alabama, Mississippi and in Texas in Houston and Fort Worth.
He is an architect and the Chief Marketing Officer of Jacobs Global Building NA.
