My statement
|
|
I am an interdisciplinary artist with practices in: 3D mixed media/woven sculptures using culled objects, silk, wire, writing fragments; atmospheric seried photographs of sequenced images exploring light on water and movement including ocean series & flower series; poet and writer. When asked what I write about, or what are my weaving and photography subjects, I answer: Life and the Unseen. Art is my means of understanding how the world of spirit inhabits the world of matter; it is how I find connection, deal with disconnection and loss; and yes, my subject is Love, the binding element of all things.
My weaving/sculptures are non traiditional and work with translucence and light, hard and soft, all to create liminal spaces that in some way bear witness to some aspect of my life. I use a Canon 35mm film camera, no filters, color film and have it processed at the local camera store. I do not crop or edit the photographs. If I begin to analyze or think technically, I put the camera down. My task is to be present and to maintain a state of play in a world that reveals and leads into everything, a world of energies and metaphor. I believe in beauty and love, transparency of heart-mind, and courage to bear witness on this journey.
