My statement
|

|
My work channels the contrasts, contradictions, paradoxes and peculiar grace of our interconnected yet disparate world. I strive to give my emotional and sensory faculties unfettered contact with the agonizing tensions and sublime harmonies that punctuate my experience as a human being. During the act of painting, I strive to silence the intellectual chatter in my head and to let myself be as open and flexible as possible so that nuanced and elegant images might flow through me. Through this process I hope to craft images that illuminate the fringes of our visual comprehension.

BA - Skidmore College, Self-Determined Major in Political and Economic Development, Summa Cum Laude with honors, Phi Beta Kappa, Rhodes Scholarship Nominee. (May 2009)
The New York Studio School - Painting Certificate Program. Studying with Bill Jensen and Margrit Lewczuk. (current)

Student Opportunity Fund Grant ($575) for series of paintings entitled "The Weight of Moral Freedom". (2008)
Kathryn Wasserman Davis "Projects for Peace" Grant ($10,000) for a collaborative project with EDWON, a women-led micro-finance organization in Nepal. (2008)
National Community Action Award with Commendations from New York State Senate and Assembly for community focused research project. (2009)
Sarah Bennet '92 Memorial Prize for Leadership in Student Journalism for the film They Come in the Name of Helping. (2008)
