My statement
|
|
I found myself always living in between two worlds, the dreaming and the waking. Much too often I was not able to distinguish between the two. Drawing and painting instinctually acted as a means for me to coexist in, and share a little of both worlds at the same time.
I found my style in my early adolescent years and have continued to explore its evolution.
I was born in Baku, USSR on September 5, 1981. I moved to the United States at age 9. Now I live in Long Beach, California.
My inspirations in art are the same inspirations that make life so interesting to live. All the layers and connections, the beauty, the wickedness, the earth and the cultures it nourishes make life an inspiration all of it’s own. There is so much going on and so much to absorb. I find that I am most compelled to paint when something very powerful is going on within or around me, be it wonderful or horrible. My dreams are a great creative force as well. I have very vivid and intense dreams that I retain for years which often get recorded in my paintings.
I have always felt that art is meant to evoke powerful emotions, including ones that don't always feel good. Art is here to remind us that we are creatures with many layers, and getting stuck in just one layer is cheating yourself of experiencing everything possible. My work's mission is to help people stop fearing that which they don't understand, and open their minds to the knowledge, beauty and love that is inside all of us. I paint what I feel because that is what I know.
In my work, one can see that things are connected. Linkable throughout the painting everything is constantly giving birth to something else.
