KittArt says: Over the last several decades, the definition of drawing has expanded far beyond linear marks applied to paper. However, I believe there is still validity in making drawings that are exactly that. For one of the abiding aspects of drawing is its immediacy in the development and clarity of one’s artistic idenity.
In May 2008 I turned forty. The approach of this event caused me to take stock of my life. Concurrently I was drawing in pen and ink, a medium I had not used in several years. I had taken up drawing again as a stimulus for daily work on my art. However, the drawings quickly took on a more substantial role.
While drawing, I started questioning my approach to art making. Several urges and influences from early in my career resurfaced. I began to ask myself what approaches, what compositional, emotional and mark making elements are uniquely mine? And how do I uncover, focus on and strengthen them? Through these drawings I found some answers to those questions.
